Probably the biggest lie (hard to choose from so many) from the leftwingers is that government is the source of freedom. Hence the reason that people have fallen for the marketing that the liberals / leftwingers have thrown at the public over the decades. Who doesn’t want freedom? Who isn’t for freedom? They’ve also been made to believe that any restrictions on the government mean restrictions on their freedom.
It’s a shame that this blog post has to be written at all about this but the left has so confused the issue that this must be repeated often: Government isn’t the source of freedom. The only thing government can do is restrict freedom (via laws, regulations, taxes, etc). People are born free until they are oppressed by their fellow man. This most often takes the form of government in the western nations.
The Constitution of the United States no only describes the form of powers of government but also restricts the growth of government. The Bill of Rights basically says what the government can NOT do to you. While the big government leftists have tried to undermine the protections, they are still there. The recent battles against gun ownership are a war on the 2nd amendment, which is, by extension, a war on the Constitution.
Also, a recent development is to put people into groups of victims, and say that only government can protect them. Primary among them are the homosexual community, primarily in regards to gay marriage. According to them, only big government liberals can protect homosexuals from those with a traditional view of marriage.
In the past, other groups are Illegal hispanic immigrants, hence the push for amnesty.
Another group are black Americans. For decades, the liberals have been acting like it’s still 1964 and that the Klan running amok and only big government can save and liberate them. The only truly liberated black Americans are those that no longer need the government. These tend to be conservative black Americans and you can see how they are treated (Allen West, Clarence Thomas, Herman Cain, etc).
The battle to preserve our true freedoms against big government has never been more highly pitched than now.
